Prerequisites

The computer you are using for connecting to the VPN must be -

  • Running Windows XP
  • Connected to the Internet

Instructions

Open the Control Panel

Then open Network Connections

From the File menu select New Connection

In the New Connection Wizard, click Next

Select Connect to the network at my workplace and click Next

Choose Virtual Private Network Connection and click Next

Enter your Company name, so you can identify the connection later, and click Next.

Select Do not dial the initial connection and click Next

Enter the name or IP address of your VPN server

Select My use only then click Next

Put a tick in the box for Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop, and click Next

In future, double-clicking on the desktop shortcut will start the VPN connection for you.


You should now see the following dialog box:

Enter your VPN username and password.
It is possible for Windows to remember your password, so you t have to type it each time you connect. If you want to do this, click Save this username and password for the following checkbox, and make Me is also checked.
Once you have done that, click Connect.


Your computer will then attempt to make the connection, after which, you will notice an extra network connection icon in the system tray (the collection of icons next to the clock in the bottom right hand corner of your screen)
